Guitar Lessons
Lessons are weekly and are of thirty minutes duration. Students generally take guitar lessons for their own pleasure but teachers also prepare those students who wish to take formal examinations.
Students are taught individually but teachers are willing to teach a group of two, usually children, where a student has a friend or brother or sister wishing to learn at the same time.
At Associated Music Teachers we are proud to cater for "All styles, all levels, all ages and for all ambitions." We have four enthusiastic, professional, qualified musicians who are regular performers and educators in every field of guitar playing, from acoustic and electro-acoustic to electric and bass guitar. Lessons in ukulele are also available.
Tuition is developed to meet the specific needs and requirements of individually students. Students usually have some idea of the style of guitar playing they wish to develop and through discussion with the teacher this can be agreed.
Styles covered are: Baroque, Classical, Spanish, Romantic, Contemporary, Jazz, Rock, Popular, Country, Folk, Metal etc.
Lessons cover technical development, aural, reading tab and notation (where applicable), improvisation and some group playing when appropriate.
Instruments
It is essential that students have their own guitar for all lessons. Young children should have a 'junior-sized' guitar which has a smaller fret board, designed for smaller hands!
Students who are learning electric guitar will need to discuss with their teacher whether there is a need for them to bring their own amplifier to lessons.
Examinations
Classical students take examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and contemporary students with the Registry of Guitar Tutors.
Workshops
Day and weekend residential courses for all guitar students who would like to advance their skills in a group situation are being planned.
